The new urban habitat

  • Competition

Proposal: The “Great Tree of Seoul” building is a solution to the ever growing population of Seoul, South Korea. By intersecting a typical apartment and office complex with a vertical horticulture system a city within a city is created- a new urban habitat. The high rise is connected directly to the Cheonggyechon Stream, which flows through downtown Seoul. Because of the underground walkway the building becomes part of the stream in turn celebrating it. The vertical forest filters out pollution, aids in creating a micro climate, and filters dust particles present in the urban environment. The diversity of the plants help in absorbing CO2 and creating humidity, improving the area around it.
